Oh, well fancy coming across you here today! Let me be the first to say, “Happy 4th of July!” *fireworks dance across the sky*
(No? Too much? Fine.)
Anyways do you ever find yourself on a website or app to sign up for one thing and you sign up for another, completely different thing? Okay good, I’m not the only one.
Sometime last week I in my endeavors for work to try and find people to reach out to in order to share about As Built Documentation, I went to LinkedIn and found a ‘movement’ I had been told about called Cup of Joey. I went to sign up to a few of their get togethers around the westside of Houston to network and share my ‘y’.
In the process to sign up for Cup of Joey’s meetings I saw on Eventbrite a different type of meetup in one of the local park. This one involved walking three miles in a hour and a half while meeting new people. I signed up and went last Friday. Come to find out it is put on by an organization called Urban Paths. It’s pretty awesome!
**Flowers along the trail in wait for the sun, but also to brighten your day!
I mean for the ones who know about my time out on Catalina Island working for Mountain and Sea Educational Adventures with me leading the groups of kids on hikes, especially the night hikes, then you may know how much I enjoy walking and hiking in general (even in flip-flops, aka I prefer it in all honesty).
Either way I enjoyed the walk so much I went back the NEXT day to walk for three hours or so around the same park. I went on different paths and trails, or well part of the one from Friday, but definitely a lot of ones I did not know existed. One had a canopy of brush over it where I decided to walk the 100 feet or so as I squat down. Pretty impressed with myself to be able to accomplish it!
One of the spots overlooks a prairie space, so I sat down, banged out mud from my shoes and wrote the poem below. It’s good to be reminded how small we are in our human bodies with all of creation around us, and yet also even in such a state God loves and cherishes us.
Trail Upon Trail Rivulets slide down the valleys Even while shaded By a Prairie Observation Lookout To gaze on the Creation Conserved in wonder With flower blossoms At the height of summer’s heat And the butterflies at play, While the bird song trills on~ Still city sounds in the mix, But the crickets and insects Go on and on and on either way To dance in rhythm With the sun’s passage And I? I sit in awe, A small microcosm steeped In the vibrancy of Life, The frequencies of Heaven For all the Earth to play together. ~Selah~ ~By: A.J. Wagoner ©️2025
So yes I live in a city, but the beauty of God’s creation still stays present even in a city full of concrete. It’s good to find yourself within it from time to time!
What are you waiting for? Go find some creation to walk through!
As always, may His face shine upon you and you experience His deep love and devotion towards you!
Blessings!
