Happy Friday!
March 30th will mark a year after my last night at the pizza shop I was at for four and a half years after it got closed down. It was a bit of a shock at the time and I still do not think I was ready for it to happen, but I think it was needed for me.
Once I began working 120 hours every two weeks, then I pretty much did so for about two and a half to three years of my time there as a delivery driver and shift leader. We had a lot of fun and had some good moments even in the slower times over the period of time we were open.
The poem for today though stands as a testament to the time I spent delivering pizza where for the first two and a half years I had no issues, but sometime in 2022 I lost one hubcap, then another one not long after that period. The third one came off sometime of the second half of 2023 and by the time we closed I had the last one left, although it was cracked.
Some friends made mention of knowing my car because of the lack of hubcaps, and so I wrote the following poem. I believe it shows no matter what happens we can find some humor and most definitely can find poetry in any place we encounter.
An Ode to My Hubcaps Two or so years in And all four intact What a ride for sure, Yet the delivery driver Took my hubcaps, One-by-one~ Thin crust and crispy, Oblong shaped And everyone enjoyed the start. A white VW Jetta Movin’ to the groove Of an I10 feeder And neighborhoods around, But in the next two and a half years The delivery driver took my hubcaps One-by-one~ The drives on repeat over and over Every speed bump and pothole, Every Memorial construction repeat, Repeat, And hand a pizza off To turn and wonder “What seems off?” Yes, the roads claimed three On journeys alone, no idea where, But now we must declare farewell For i Fratelli Pizza stands no more With tears from Pastor Jarboe And I must pen an Ode to My Hubcaps For I, the delivery driver, lost them. ~Selah~ ~By: A.J. May you have a wonderful day and weekend! May you also find humor and poetry in the small and big moments of your life!
Blessings!
